Project Concept: Hip-Hop EP

For my FMP I want to produce, write lyrics to and record a rap EP with approximately 5 songs on it, with all of the beats containing at least 1 sample. I've wanted to put lyrics on my beats for a while and I feel like this is the perfect opportunity to take that step and start writing lyrics, instead of just thinking about it. The inspiration to do this came from watching a documentary series based on Kanye West's rise to fame called 'Jeen-Yuhs'. I saw a lot of similarities between me and him; we both produced a huge selection of instrumentals in the hopes of one day putting lyrics on them and I think we have the same drive to get to where we want to be. He kicked off his career as a producer, but he wanted to save all of his good beats for himself, and most of them included a sample of an old soul or funk song. Kanye would often chop old songs up, while adding his own drums and other sounds to it, to create a hip-hop beat. I've decided, as I want to further my sampling skills, to make some similar beats and put lyrics on them for my FMP, although I won't be focusing on a hip-hop sound; I'll be focusing on making sure all tracks have at least 1 sample in them. To do this; I will use a DAW called FL Studio and find songs to sample on YouTube, then download them and make them my own. I will write lyrics whenever I get a chance to but I'm only able to actually record them in college, as I don't have the equipment at home.
